If you already use a moisturizer or a facial oil, you may wonder how a serum can fit into your beauty regimen. With so many products delivering different results it can be hard to know what is right for your skin. In this article we’ll be looking at where a serum will fit in your beauty regimen, how a serum works and why they are so beneficial for your skin.
What is a serum?
Serums are traditionally water-based skin care products that are infused with vitamin-rich oils, minerals and antioxidants. Their ultra-lightweight formula makes them perfect for layering, as they won’t leave your skin feeling weighed down or congested. They help to lock in moisture, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and tone the skin, as well as helping to reduce redness caused by acne and other skin conditions.
What does serum do?
Serums contain higher levels of moisture-based active ingredients than face creams and lotions, so they are typically able to penetrate deeper into the skin than a moisturizer. Because of this ability, they can deliver a concentrated dose of nourishment and hydration, targeting specific skin concerns such as dryness, hyperpigmentation and un-even texture, which often start in the deeper layers of living skin tissue.
When should you apply a serum?
A serum should be applied after cleansing and before your moisturizer or facial oil. Moisturizers and facial oils create a protective barrier on top of the skin to prevent moisture loss and to protect your skin from external aggressors such as pollution and free radicals. If you apply your serum after either of these types of products it would sit on top of your skin and be partly wasted.
To sandwich in even more moisture you may like to use a toning facial spritz before your serum. Green People’s Toning Hydrating Mist contains high levels of organic floral waters and gives your skin an instant boost of natural hydration.
Natural and organic serums
Green People’s organic serums deliver so much more than simple hydration. Based on organic Aloe Vera, both serums are calming and balancing for sensitive skin and rich in restorative, organic plant actives.
Ingredients such as Everlasting Flower and Seaweed are packed with protective antioxidants that help to prevent the appearance of premature skin ageing, while Jojoba and Pomegranate oils deliver intense nourishment.
